Aloha JBO Warriors,
There have been some recent reports of Phishing attack emails, where the email@example.com email address has been spoofed, targeting our community. These attacks began in December and initially targeted AJBO Board Members but over the last couple days I have received reports of fraudulent emails from our membership. The most recent attacks claim that the user has an unpaid invoice which needs to be settled.
Below is an example of a recent email. Noticed that even the message appears to come from the firstname.lastname@example.org account, but in fact they are spoofing my account and the real sender is highlighted. This email contained an attachment.
DO NOT OPEN THESE ATTACHMENTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.
If you receive one of these emails, please let me know and if possible, please copy the email header information and send it along with your email. We are attempting to isolate the source of the attack and this information will be useful. At this point we have narrowed down the attack source to either our google email accounts or more likely the Blue Sombrero Web server.
Please remember that official communications from AJBO will always come from either the Blue Sombrero or the SportsEngine Website. Unless I am communicating with you directly. The organization will never ask you for an official payment of any kind outside of our web portal and you can ALWAYS log into your account to check your account balance and/or make payments.
The Youtube video below is the best Digital Security training around. Its even called "The Best Security Awareness Training Ever." They do a good job of not being boring and helping you to identify all the different types of web and email attacks out there. Check it out if you need to brush up.
Remember if you are unsure just ASK. Stay Vigilant and GO WARRIORS
